General rules
The organizers of OpenGeoHub Summer Schools are dedicated to providing a harassment-free event experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at OpenGeoHub Summer Schools are required to agree to the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout and expect cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for all.
We do not tolerate harassment of OpenGeoHub Summer Schools participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any event venue, including talks, workshops and practicals, and online media.
Participants engaging in harassing behaviour may be sanctioned in any way organizers deem appropriate. Participants may be formally warned to stop the behaviour and expelled if they continue, or immediately expelled from the event without refund, and their details will be forwarded to partner institutions and events. Additionally, if the harassing behaviour is part of a sponsor display or a talk, the display will be removed or the talk stopped, as well as the other responses listed above.
OpenGeoHub Summer Schools attendants agree to:
- Be considerate in speech and actions, and actively seek to acknowledge and respect the boundaries of fellow attendees.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.
- Alert a member of the staff if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this code of conduct, even if they seem inconsequential.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to
If you are asked to stop harassing behaviour by the event moderators you should stop immediately. Even if your behaviour was meant to be friendly or a joke, it was clearly not taken that way, and for the comfort of all event attendees you should stop.
Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material.
- Stalking.
- Deliberate intimidation.
- Unwanted photography or recording.
- Discriminatory images in public spaces.
- Sustained or wilful disruption of talks or other events.
- Use of sexual or discriminatory imagery, comments, or jokes.
- Offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, or sexual imagery.
- Inappropriate physical contact, which can include grabbing, as well as hugging or massaging without asking.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, which can include inappropriate questions of a sexual nature, asking for sexual favours, or repeatedly asking for dates or contact information.
Recording permission for participants
Most of the events organized by OpenGeoHub are audio and video recorded. As a member of the public, participants could appear on the recordings, although the video recordings will mostly be targeting lecturers. The consent of attendees is therefore requested. If you are considering attending one of OpenGeoHub’s events, such as a Summer School, please indicate your preference in the registration form sent prior to the event.
Why is this event recorded and photographed? In order to promote the Summer School in online and offline media including, but not limited to, the OpenGeoHub website, its social media channels, and those of affiliated partners.
What if I do not give my consent to be recorded? You are under no obligation to be audio or video recorded. If you decide not to give your consent you will still be able to join the event. However, the staff will indicate a specific seating area for the duration of the event where you will not be filmed. You will not be able to ask questions or interact with the person making the presentation during the parts of the event that are recorded.
What about the storage of the recordings? The recordings and photos are kept on the computers of the communication officers of OpenGeoHub and in a cloud account. Their access is password protected. The edited version of the recordings and photos will also be published on the OpenGeoHub website and the TIB AV portal.
How long will these recordings be stored? Because we aim to get a DOI for each webinar or recorded seminar, the videos will in principle be saved permanently. Photographs from the event will also be shared through our social channels and can be considered the permanent record of the event.

Requirements for talks
Talk slides and presentations fall under this code of conduct. Talk slides should not contain offensive or sexualised material. If this material is impossible to avoid given the topic (for example, text mining of material from hate sites) the existence of this material should be noted both in the abstract and at the start of the talk.
